Suicide is a tragic social epidemic. There were almost 43,000 suicides in 2014 in the United States, which far exceeds the number of deaths from vehicle crashes. Suicide is an equal opportunity killer; the pain and devastation of suicide cuts across the spectrum of society. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), suicide is the tenth leading cause of death among Americans regardless of age.
